In this Casper Element review section, we’ll be looking at the most prominent features of this particular mattress. After that, I’ll introduce you to some negative aspects of the Casper Element mattress so you know what to look out for.

A 2-Layer, Quickly Assembled Mattress 

Before we get into the specifics, let’s see what the mattress is made of. The whole creation of the mattress is based on Caspers' 4D Sleep Technology which focuses on creating the perfect blend of pressure relief, temperature control, and sleep quality. 

First of all, as the title suggests, the Casper Element is made out of only 2 layers of foam, which definitely is on the smaller side.

Anyways, the top layer of the mattress is called the AirScape which is Caspers' trademark material, made out of polyfoam. More than that, I’ve scrolled through some Casper Element reviews and noticed that multiple back sleepers had great outcomes. Customers noticed an increase in sleep quality, some even felt alleviation in the back area. Here’s a review from one of them:

Good for Sex

On the flip side, the durable foam base prevents deep sinkage so your partner doesn’t get lost in the depths of your bedsheets. Also, the fully-foam construction won’t make a sound, so keeping it down low won’t be an issue.

Motion Isolation

Speaking of couples, sleeping with a partner could be frustrating at times. Especially if the person is working late. That’s where a mattress with good motion isolation could come in handy.

Probably one of the best and most predominant features of foam mattresses is how they handle motion transfer. Since they are made out of soft materials like memory foam or polyfoam, the likes of Casper Sleep Element mattresses can manage motion transfer pretty well.

Likewise, it’s a lot less tedious to switch positions, because the top polyfoam layer doesn’t mold to your body, but rather keeps it afloat.

What do people have to say about this mattress?

Surprisingly, multiple Casper Element reviews from customers showed that the mattress was great for co-sleeping families and couples, because it had little to no motion transfer whatsoever. All in all, fully foam mattresses usually do not disappoint in the motion isolation and pressure relief departments.

Now, take a look at a couple of somewhat underwhelming features of the Casper Element.

Edge Support Could be Better

Needless to say that, just like any other foam mattress, the Casper Element lacks edge support. Usually, mattresses have some assistance around the edges, for instance, hybrid mattresses use pocket springs for extra edge support. 

That being said, the Elements' edge support is not as bad compared to other foam mattresses that we’ll address a little bit later. In any case, if you’re not that concerned about slipping off the edge of your mattress, then this is not something you should worry about.

However, some Casper Element reviews suggested that the mattress was much softer than they'd expected, and sitting on the edge resulted in sinkage/sliding off the mattress. This shows that the edges are barely reinforced, and not very suitable for heavier people. 

Not a Good Fit for Side & Stomach Sleepers

While back sleepers will enjoy the medium-firmness and slight softness of the mattress, this could be an issue for side and stomach sleepers. 

Side sleepers might experience some hip pain, especially if you have had trauma in that area. That’s because your upper body will most likely sink into the polyfoam layer. However, if you’re a side sleeper who is light in the weight area, then sinkage will be less of an issue.

Stomach sleepers usually require a medium-firm/firm mattress so the midsection doesn’t sink into the middle. While the Casper Element is considered a medium-firm mattress, heavier stomach sleepers might not feel as good on it since their weight won't be distributed evenly.

So, why is this important to know?

Well, people who sleep on their stomachs need to keep their hips and shoulders aligned. If there’s sinkage involved in these areas, then you may experience some achiness in the morning.

Now, some Casper Sleep Element mattress reviews showed that it was too soft even for lightweights, and other customers mentioned that they've experienced some hip achiness when sleeping on the side.

Temperature control is a very important feature in terms of sleep quality. In fact, sleeping in a cold environment will lead to much better sleep, but not everyone likes to keep their window open at night. So, this is where these mattress cooling features come into play. But how is it in the Casper Element?

To be quite frank, the cooling is definitely better than other all-foam mattresses, thanks to the perforated AirScape foam layer which improves airflow throughout the mattress. 

However, it won’t be much of an improvement if you regularly wake up soaked in sweat. Foam mattresses have a bad tendency of trapping heat, especially if the foam layer is quite dense. Which obviously leads to more sweating.

Likewise, there were multiple complaints on the Casper Element review section about temperature control: customers felt that the mattress wasn’t cool at all, and sleeping hot turned out to be a huge issue.

I mean, temperature control will always be an issue for all-foam mattresses. So, if you’re a hot sleeper, then I’d advise looking at some innerspring mattresses which provide superb cooling compared to foam layers. Likewise, you may look at some comforters that could give you a cooler experience at night.

Casper Element vs Original

Now that we’ve figured out the ins and outs of the Casper Element mattress, we will compare it to the Original. Let’s see how the new kid on the block holds up against the old dog.

So, the Casper Original is a 3-layer mattress that comes in two options - all-foam or hybrid. Now, the foam part of the mattress has this feature called Zoned Support which means that the density of the foam is distributed into 3 ergonomic zones - shoulder, head, and hip areas.

In other words, you get a softer feel in the upper section (head, shoulders), while your hips are supported with a firmer layer of foam. This keeps the spine aligned with the rest of your body, which is why the Casper Original obviously comes out on top in the pressure relief department. 

Nevertheless, the price of a Casper Element mattress starts at $395.00. So, it’s twice more affordable than the Original, and it barely lacks in other features such as motion isolation and edge support. 

All in all, both are great in their own ways. So, if you’re looking for some more comfort and durability, then I’d suggest going for the Casper Original with a hybrid or all-foam construction. 

On the other hand, if that’s not something you necessarily need, then the Casper Element is definitely a safe choice in terms of price and comfort.  

Casper Element vs Tuft and Needle

So, we’ve established the main things separating the Element and the Original, and both had their own respective advantages. But how does the Casper Element compare to other mattress brands? Well, let’s get outside the family tree of Casper Mattresses, and see how the Element holds up against Tuft and Needle.

Without going any further, let me say that the two mattresses are almost alike. They share the same foam structure, medium-firmness, and a top breathable layer that gives the mattress a bit of cooling. 

However, there are a couple of things that differentiate the two mattresses: 

• Firmness. While both are considered medium-firm mattresses, the Tuft and Needle is slightly firmer which makes it a better choice for stomach sleepers. 
• Edge support. While polyfoam mattresses are usually expected to have poorly reinforced edges, some Casper Element reviews suggested that it holds up slightly better than other foam mattresses. We may call this a “best out of the worst” scenario. 
• Price. There isn’t a huge gap in price between the Casper Element and Tuft and Needle. However, you may save a couple of bucks here and there by getting the Element at the expense of getting a less firm mattress.

Now then, what do I think? I mean, there isn’t much that separates the two, honestly. Both of these were given high ratings by previous buyers, with Tuft and Needle having the upper hand in being more firm. 

So, if you’re a stomach sleeper, then the Tuft and Needle will definitely serve you better with its medium-firm/firm attribute. But, if you want to save some cash and get a slightly softer mattress, then the Casper Element is certainly a good choice.
