Finding the right mattress is a difficult task. Especially if you need a mattress that would provide you with more support and offer better than average durability. Those two features are crucial and if you’re looking for the best mattress for heavy person remember to pay attention to them.

In this article, you will find everything the is to know about mattresses for larger sleepers and even the best mattress for heavy people.

In the very beginning of this article, I will introduce you with the aspects that matter for heavier sleepers, then I will provide you with an analysis of 7 best mattresses for heavy people. After that, I’ll conclude everything.

Here’s the list of mattresses I will go through today:

Introduction - Best Mattress for Heavy People

Let’s begin this review with the aspects that matter for heavy people:

  • Mattress firmness. Today you can find a variety of mattresses, including a wide range of firmness options. Usually, mattresses’ stiffness varies from 3 to 8. Heavier sleepers (above 230 pounds) should always choose beds between 6 and 8, from medium-firm to firm. Since firmer beds provide you with more support, your mattress will be less saggy, and it will extend its durability.

  • Edge support. Since mattresses are also used for sitting, you will need much better edge support, otherwise, your mattress may sink too much at the edges. Note that the hybrid and innerspring mattresses usually provide the best edge support.

  • Temperature neutrality. One of the significant issues for heavier sleepers is a hot mattress. The hottest mattresses are usually foam and memory foam ones, they trap the head, which leads to sleeping way too hot. The best options would be to choose innerspring and hybrid mattresses, due to their design, they trap much less heat that memory foam mattresses and sleep relatively cool.

Of course, there are many other aspects that matter for larger sleepers but those are the most important factors to consider.

Let’s move to the best mattress for heavy people now.

Best Mattress for Heavy People - Selections

Let me present you the list that you've been waiting for.

1. Saatva - Best Option for Heavy People

Ranks #1 out of 7 Mattresses

Let's begin with the very best mattress for heavy people. Saatva offers two mattress models: Saatva and Saatva HD. Both of them are innerspring beds. Saatva mattresses are not only one of the best mattresses for heavy people but they’re also created from environmentally-friendly materials.

According to the best mattress for heavy people reviews, the Saatva HD shows much better results than the regular Saatva, however, that option is much more expensive as well.

The Saatva mattress offers three firmness options: soft (4), medium (6) and firm (7.5), the Saatva HD offers only one - firm (7), but it’s perfect for heavy sleepers. Both mattresses will give you perfect pain and pressure relief, they will keep you cool throughout the night.

The Saatva HD offers perfect motion and sound isolation, while the original Saatva shows a little bit poorer results. Therefore, if you’re looking for the best mattress for a heavy person and you don’t care about the price, then you should definitely consider the Saatva HD.

What is the Saatva Mattress Price?

Here are the pricing options for the Saatva Classic model:

And here’s the Saatva HD price:

As you can see, Saatva is not an inexpensive option, but it works amazing for heavier individuals.

2. Nectar - Perfect Motion and Sound Isolation

Ranks #2 out of 7 Mattresses

Let’s continue with the Nectar. You might think it’s strange I included a memory foam bed into this best mattress for heavy people reviews, especially when I recommended not to choose one. But trust me, there are always exceptions.

To begin with, Nectar mattress is 11” height, which is thicker than regular memory foam mattresses. The Nectar is designed from four individual layers, which give so needed support for heavier sleepers. In terms of firmness, Nectar is a medium (6) mattress, which is on the firmer side. It means that you won't sink too deep.

Now, what about coolness? Since the Nectar comes with a lyocell cover, it will maintain neutral body temperature throughout the night. It will also provide you with perfect motion and sound isolation.

What’s more, Nectar should serve you at least seven years. During that time, it will provide you with perfect pressure and pain relief. According to the majority of the best mattress for heavy people reviews, it adapts perfectly to your body and offers fantastic conforming!

What is the Nectar Mattress Pricing?

3. Purple - Two Models

Ranks #3 out of 7 Mattresses

Purple offers two models: The Original model and the New Purple. Both of the models are great for heavier sleepers. Let me tell you why. The original Purple offers one firmness option, which is a medium firm (6.5). The New Purple provides you with three firmness options, including soft (4.5), medium (5.5) and firm (6.5).

Thus, no matter which model you decide to choose, you will get the best mattress for heavy people.

However, if you only care about the quality and the price is not a problem, I would always advise you to choose the New Purple, it’s like an extension and improvement of an old model. The New Purple is a hybrid bed, which I already told you is the best mattress for obese.

With the New Purple, you get above-regular durability, great motion and sound isolation, pain and pressure relief, and also bounciness that is needed for good sex. And, differently, from the majority foam beds, it gives you excellent temperature neutrality!

What is the Purple Mattress Pricing?

Let's move to the Purple mattress price.  First, take a look into the Original Purple mattress pricing:

With the new Purple, it’s more complicated as the price ranges depending on your firmness choice. It can go up to $3499 USD. Here you can find the lowest pricing options of the New Purple:

Since the New Purple shows better results, it's not surprising that it's more expensive too.

4. Helix - High-Quality

Ranks #4 out of 7 Mattresses

The Helix Nightfall is designed particularly for heavier individuals, which makes it the best mattress for heavy person competitor.

To begin with, the Helix Nightall is an inexpensive option, that won’t hurt your wallet. It’s a medium firm (6) bed, which should normally serve you at least 7 years. Also, since it’s the hybrid model, it offers great temperature neutrality due to the airflow through the coils. And, differently, from memory foam mattresses it gives amazing edge support, so the bed will be comfortable for sitting as well.

Now, because it’s a hybrid model, it’s not as perfect at the sound and movement isolation, however, it’s bouncy, which is a big advantage for your sexual activities. Now, let’s see how much you will have to pay to get such a high-quality mattress.

What is the Helix Mattress Pricing?

5. Loom & Leaf -Really Firm Mattress

Ranks #5 out of 7 Mattresses

Even though memory foam beds cannot always be the best mattress for heavy people, Loom and Leaf is one out of few exceptions. It offers two firmness options: medium (5.5) and firm (8). The previous option will provide heavy sleepers with the needed support.

The Loom & Leaf is designed from the gel memory foam and the standard memory foam. The gel memory foam is proven to have cooling properties, which means you will sleep relatively cooler compared to regular memory foam mattresses.

Since Loom & Leaf mattress is often considered the best mattress for heavy people, it has a variety of other benefits too. To begin with, it has perfect motion and sound isolation, so you won’t feel your partner moving next to you. Furthermore, it offers a perfect conforming, which will provide you with perfect pain and pressure relief.

As you can see, Loom & Leaf has every feature that is needed for heavier sleepers, including support, temperature, neutrality, motion and sound isolation, and pressure relief. Now, how much does this best mattress for heavy people cost?

What is the Loom & Leaf mattress price?

The list of the pricing options for L&L is here:

Considering the fact that Loom & Leaf provides one of the firmest mattresses in the market, it's not surprising that pricing is a little bit higher too.

6. WinkBeds - Special Design

Ranks #6 out of 7 Mattresses

Winkbed Plus is designed especially for individuals who weight more than 300 pounds. So, this mattress can be considered as the best mattress for obese people.

It’s a hybrid mattress, which is designed from foam, latex and innerspring. It comes in the medium-firm level of firmness, so it’s more on the stiffer side, which is one of the major reasons why this mattress could be called the best mattress for heavy person.

What is more, since it’s the hybrid mattress, it provides you with the coolness throughout the night. Also, it’s responsive to pressure, which means it’s bouncy and great for sexual activities.

According to the Winkbeds mattress reviews, this is one of the best mattresses for heavy people as it offers perfect conforming and pressure relief. Also, it’s great for almost every sleeping position. If you’re a back sleeper, this mattress will provide you with support. If you like to sleep on your stomach, it will keep your hips and spine in a healthy position.

7. TEMPUR-ProAdapt - A Choice Between Foam and Hybrid

Ranks #7 out of 7 Mattresses

Tempur-Pedic is a company that has a wide assortment of mattresses in stock. In this list, however, we'll be referencing the ProAdapt model.

ProAdapt comes in two different versions - all-foam or foam and innerspring hybrid. The foam mattress provides a little bit more comfort, but if you're looking for the best mattress for heavy people, then it is advised that you go with the hybrid version.

The mattress itself is of the highest quality - it's super-durable, has strong edges and sleeps quite cool. Surely, choosing a hybrid bed isn't going to provide you with the same amount of comfort as an all-foam mattress would, but if you're a heavier person, this type of a foam bed would likely cause you more frustration at the end of the day.

What is the WinkBeds Plus Mattress Price?

Here are the pricing options for Tempur-ProAdapt:

So, ya... The prices aren't low by no means of the term. While the mattress is definitely a good one, you should evaluate whether the price is worth it for you before committing to a purchase like this.

Conclusions

I hope that this review was informative enough and you found everything you were looking for.  You now know everything there is to know about the mattresses for heavy people, so it should help to make your decision.

If you ask my recommendations, you probably know that I would recommend Nectar, however, if you want to buy an innerspring mattress then I would strongly recommend the new Purple, you won't be disappointed.

However, you should feel completely safe choosing any of the provided mattresses since all of them can offer pressure and pain relief, durability and, of course, enough support.

Other Less Favoured Mattresses in This Category

Here are other mattresses related to the category but not as favoured by MyBestMattress readers yet. In my personal opinion, today there are much more optimal mattresses in the list with the higher rating that I'd recommend for the same price range or less.

DreamCloud - Less Good for Heavy People

DreamCloud is a medium firm hybrid mattress, which fulfills every expectation that a sleeper who is looking for the best mattress for heavy people may have. The mattress is designed from 8 unique layers and a cashmere cover for the most pleasant feeling.

Since DreamCloud uses high-density foams, they add extra durability and the mattress should serve you at least 7-8 years. What is more, it provides you with perfect motion and sound isolation, so you and your partner will be able to enjoy the quality sleep.

But DreamCloud is not only great for sleep. This mattress is very responsive to pressure and provides you with bounciness improving your sexual experiences.

Now, since it’s quite a firm mattress, it won’t provide you with perfect confirming, however, the majority of sleepers who were looking for the best mattress for obese claimed, that’s it’s conforming enough.

What’s left? The only feature that is not the strongest DreamCloud’s quality is not the best edge support. Even if the majority hybrid mattresses offer this quality, DreamCloud can disappoint sleepers who are looking for the best mattress for heavy people as it may not be the firmest in the edges.

What is the DreamCloud mattress price?

The list of the pricing and options for DreamCloud is here:

  • Twin - $699 USD
  • Twin XL - $899 USD
  • Full - $1099 USD
  • Queen - $1299 USD
  • King - $1399 USD
  • Cal King - $1399 USD

Helis Dusk

To start with, Helis mattress elivery was super quick and set up was easy. The mattress is made of quality materials and looks durable. The firmness level is just right, but it's way too hot. I think about getting a topper just to cool down while sleeping. Overall, it's great.

FAQ

What mattresses should heavy sleepers choose?

Heavier sleepers (above 230 pounds) should always choose beds between 6 and 8, from medium-firm to firm , have strong edge support and sleep cool. Such sleepers should consider innerspring, hybrid or latex mattresses.

What is better for heavy sleepers: innerspring or latex mattress?

It all depends on the manufacturer, mattress firmness, support and the ability to maintain the neutral body temperature . They both can be a great option for a heavy sleeper.

How to choose the best mattress for me?

When choosing the best mattress for yourself, there are a few important factors that you should consider. First of all, what type of mattress do you need? The most traditional mattresses are memory foam, innerspring and latex, but there are other options, too. Secondly, think about how much you can spend on a mattress, but remember it doesn’t mean that the mattress is better if it’s more expensive. Furthermore, pick a size and firmness depending on your preferences. Finally, think about your sleeping position, it will also influence your decision.

How much does a good mattress cost?

Mattress price usually varies depending on a few factors, such as mattress type, size, height, quality of the material and durability. Today the price of a mattress can vary from $150 to $7000. However, you can find a good mattress for under $1000. The average pricing of a foam mattress is about $900 dollars, innerspring $950. These are the least expensive mattresses. However, if you can afford more expensive ones, you can consider a hybrid mattress for about $1,650, latex - about $2,000.

What size mattress should I get?

Most mattress providers offer 6 standard sizes, including Twin, Twin XL, Full/Double, Queen, King, and California King. A Twin mattress is great for children or young adults who live alone. A Twin XL mattress is great for children or single adults but not comfortable for couples. A Full/Double bed is excellent for children and couples, however, it won’t work if both people like to have more space. Queen mattresses work great for adults who like to sleep near each other. A King bed is amazing for couples who like to have some space or sleep with a pet. Finally, a California King mattress is amazing for tall people and couples who like to have space or sleep with their pets.

How long does a mattress last? When should you replace your mattress?

Mattress durability depends on the materials that were used to make it. The average lifespan of a mattress varies from 7 to 10 years. However, good quality mattresses can last even longer. It is recommended to replace your mattress every 8 years, but if it still feels great, there’s no need. If you want to buy a mattress that lasts longer than average, you should consider latex or memory foam mattresses. These can serve up to 10 or 15 years while Innerspring mattresses usually last about 7-8 years.
