Getting a new mattress may be a blessing in disguise. I mean, you could just be looking for a replacement, but what if a new mattress also helped alleviate all those pesky aches in your hips or back? Well, in this Leesa Hybrid Mattress review, you'll learn about it from a research-based perspective.

There are tons of mattresses that have different attributes like temperature control, noise isolation, etc. However, you won’t really enjoy these features as much if the mattress doesn’t fit your sleep position or isn’t as soft (or firm) as you want it to be.

So, now, let’s look at what the Leesa Hybrid Mattress has to offer.

TL;DR: The Leesa Hybrid medium-firm mattress is packed with 4 cooling memory foam layers for body contouring, and a pocketed spring system layer that gives a slight feeling of bounciness and edge support.

It is a good fit for both side and back sleepers, because of the balance created between pocketed springs and foam layers. However, heavier people, especially stomach sleepers, might struggle with firmness, and somewhat average edge-support.

Pros

  • Capable of relieving pressure points
  • Cool and breathable materials
  • Good for sex
  • Works well for most sleeping positions

Cons

  • Lackluster edge support
  • Not the best for heavy sleepers

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: PROS

We’ll start off this Leesa Hybrid Mattress review by looking at its upsides and drawbacks. I'll be addressing the main features that people are usually looking for in a mattress such as pain relief, temperature control, firmness, etc.

However, some people may see, for instance, a particular level of firmness as a disadvantage. It usually varies from person to person; depending on the weight, and what kind of health issues someone may endure. So, if some of the features are not that great, you’ll see them in the CONS section.

Now, let’s see what this mattress is all about.

Pressure Relief

Pocket spring mattresses are usually great for people who sleep with a partner, or switch between sleeping positions. Why? Well, differently from traditional springs that tend to move all at the same time, each pocket spring reacts only when there’s direct pressure.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: Leesa hybrid mattress pocket springs.

To put it simply, imagine this: regular open coil springs are like dominoes - one gets pushed, and the rest fall in. However, each pocket spring works individually, like in a game of chess: every piece moves only when it needs to. In bed terms, this is known as motion isolation.

Now, you might wonder how this affects your sleep. Well, it leads to a much more comfortable experience for you and your partner. Motion isolation via pocket springs will prevent your partner from feeling your movement in bed, and vice versa.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa mattress features.

Likewise, the pocket springs are topped with premium foam which provides extra comfort, and molds to your body structure. That makes the Leesa Hybrid Mattress quite soft and bouncy, so you and your partner can hit the sheets without hesitation. And I don’t mean going to sleep right away.

Not only that, pocket spring mattresses are usually better in terms of pressure relief. That is because your body weight gets evenly distributed on the mattress. Also, the pocketed springs are put into small pieces of cloth, so the tension of the mattress holds up even better.

Now, Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews from customers showed that for most, the mattress was neither too soft, nor too firm. It had a perfect balance, which is why medium-firm mattresses are usually amongst the most popular ones.

So, now, let’s dive a bit deeper into the whole structure of the mattress.

Latest Saatva Coupon Found:

5-Layer Construction

Did you know that the usual mattress is packed with 2-3 layers of foam? Well, since this particular mattress is a hybrid (springs accompanied by foam), it has 5 different layers.

However, don't get too spooked by that. This particular hybrid mattress has that many layers on purpose. The pocketed coils are covered with two foam layers from each side for extra support, while the rest of the layers sit at the top of the mattress.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa mattress layers.

The top layer is called a hybrid cover, made out of premium cooling foam which makes it a lot more breathable, and has a cool, stripy-ish pattern. Not only that, it slightly helps with temperature control throughout the mattress.

Going one below, we have the comfort layer which has a hole-punched texture, made out of contouring memory foam. This gives the mattress much more breathability, cooling, and adds an extra bounce on top.

Now, the third one is the recovery layer, also known as core support: made out of less dense memory foam which alleviates pressure on your back, shoulders, and hips.

The "meaty" part of the mattress is the responsive layer with more than a 1000 pocket springs. Interesting thing is, the coils go all around the mattress for additional edge support. Likewise, the pocketed coil layer gives that slight bounciness we all know and love.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa motion isolation feature.

Overall, the spring-based construction at the bottom creates a more durable and isolated surface, so you can freely roll around the bed without waking your partner up.

More than that, the mattress is made from quality, mostly eco-friendly materials with low VOC emissions, so the air at your home will be less affected. Likewise, you’ll sleep better knowing that it has no ozone-depleting substances or any heavy metals like mercury.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: Leesa mattress prototype test.

In fact, most Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews from customers mentioned that the quality and craftsmanship of the mattress were superb. Here’s a review from one of them:

My son is a physical therapist and recommended the Sapira for me. I had a totally memory foam bed for years and it was quite good. The Sapira combination of materials is even better. The price is reasonable. Shipping and setup was easy. - Steven G.

(To avoid any confusion, this Leesa Hybrid Mattress review mentions The Sapira, which was the former name of the same hybrid mattress.)

As a side note, if you’ve looked at the Leesa Original Mattress, you should’ve noticed some crucial differences from the hybrid version. The original doesn’t have the hole-punched layer, and the base is made completely out of foam.

Therefore, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress is a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor in terms of airflow and edge support.

Optimal Firmness and Multiple Sizes

Now, medium-firm is pretty much the universal firmness level for people of all weights. In fact, this particular mattress is set at 5-7 on the firmness scale, indicating that it has an average or slightly above average firmness.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa firmness level.

Some Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews suggested that the firmness was actually perfect for people who are overweight, or enjoy sleeping with a partner.

Either way, the mattress comes in all sizes, unfortunately only in one shape. For instance, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress King variant weighs over 142 lbs, and, as the name suggests, it is a king-sized bed, primarily larger in width than others. In fact, the King is usually the biggest, universally known bed size.

However, if you need more space for your feet, then the Leesa Hybrid Mattress Cal King is the way to go. It is the prolonged variant of the mattress, which is slightly smaller in width, but a bit more lengthy.

Cooling Feature

If you want to get a good nights’ sleep, then temperature is something you should definitely look out for. I mean, sleeping uncomfortably while soaked in sweat is never great.

Obviously, sleeping without a blanket, and freezing till you start chattering your teeth like Scooby-Doo isn't perfect either. That’s why there has to be a balance in mattress temperature.

Likewise, heat tends to get trapped by all-foam mattresses. That’s why quality mattresses tend to have small perforations that enable better airflow from top to bottom.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa preview on a white background.

In fact, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress has a top breathable layer, and underneath it - a hole-punched foam layer that increases the airflow throughout your bedding, alongside some pocketed coils which provide extra breathability. So, this mattress has no significant issues with temperature control.

Good for Sex

Remember earlier I mentioned hitting the sheets? Well, this is exactly what I meant.

Foam mattresses aren’t usually the best choice for sex since they have a lot of sinkage. However, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress is hooked up with a pocketed spring layer which actually gives it some bounce. So, that’s quite an advantage since you wouldn’t really expect much responsiveness from a foam mattress.

While the bounciness of this particular mattress is pretty average, it’s definitely enough for some fun. So, don’t expect it to be a trampoline.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa hybrid mattress preview.

Likewise, the cooling feature of the two top layers will certainly reduce sweating. I mean, after y’all done fooling around, you won’t really enjoy sleeping on a sweat-drenched mattress.

That’s where the top breathable cover, combined with a hole-punched comfort layer, comes into play. This will provide you with a much COOLER experience, and a more intense airflow throughout the mattress, so you won’t have to worry about switching beds after sex.

Fits Any Sleeping Position

Sleeping positions are actually crucial when it comes to getting a new mattress. You might not even realize in what way you’re sleeping until you wake up, of course. In fact, the most common sleeping positions are on your back, side, or stomach.

Also, if you’re in any way like me, then you’re no stranger to rolling around in bed till you find the perfect spot.

Research shows that choosing a mattress based on your sleeping position yields to be quite effective in reducing back and shoulder pain.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: Leesa mattress test results.

One particular study by the Oklahoma State University concluded that medium-firm mattresses with foam layers had immense effects on sleep quality, reduced stiffness in the neck, and alleviated back pain .[1]

That being said, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress may not be the perfect choice for, let’s say, stomach sleepers. Why? Well, stomach sleepers may require a much firmer surface to lay on. Especially for a heavier person.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa mattress with packaging.

However, it is definitely an upgrade for back and side sleepers. Thanks to the pocket spring and memory foam combo, it creates a decent balance between softness and firmness.

But why only side and back sleepers? Well, let me tell you all about it.

So, side sleepers require pressure relief around the hip and shoulder area. If the mattress is too soft, then you’ll find yourself in an uncomfortable situation where your hips and shoulders have sunk far lower from the rest of your body. And this uneven alignment of your body may result in some achiness.

However, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress is a combination of foam and pocketed coil layers which creates a balanced medium-firm and contouring experience

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa hybrid mattress layers.

However, in cases where the side sleeper is, let’s say, super lightweight or somewhat heavy, the mattress might appear too soft or firm. So, you might enjoy something more durable like the Saatva Classic Mattress, which is what I like to call a spring-loaded, well-rounded comfort champ.

If you want to learn more about it, check out our review on Saatva mattresses.

Likewise, some lighter-weighing back sleepers should also enjoy lying on the Leesa Hybrid Mattress. That is because you’ll need a somewhat firm surface to keep your whole midsection aligned with the rest of your body, and have slight contouring for your spine. And a hybrid mattress may give you just that.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: cup placed on a leesa mattress.

Keep in mind though - slightly heavier people might experience some sinkage around the pelvis area, so an alternative would be the Saatva HD Mattress which is as firm and durable as these mattresses get. If you want to learn more about this particular mattress - check out our review on it.

Of course, let’s not forget about stomach sleepers. Remember, I’ve mentioned that I wouldn’t really recommend the Leesa Hybrid for all of you belly-floppers. But, if you sleep on your back or side, then it’s not something you should worry about.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: woman lying on a Leesa pillow.

The main thing stomach sleepers should consider is sinkage of the midsection. So, for all of you lightweights: the medium-firmness, plus a slight bounce from the pocket springs of the Leesa Hybrid Mattress should definitely feel great on your pelvis.

But what about our heavyweight champs? While this particular mattress wouldn’t be too bad since it has the pocket spring layer for extra support, I’d also advise aiming for the Saatva HD Mattress which has a larger volume of firmness and bounciness.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: CONS

So, we’ve established the main advantages that we’ve gathered from Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews by customers. But we still need to look at some things that could potentially put you off this particular product. Let’s check them out.

Slight Off-Gassing

If you have no clue what off-gassing means, I can assure you that you certainly know the smell. Try to remember some product that you’ve recently bought. Preferably a furniture-type item.

Now, there’s always this smell that comes off new products. Some tend to have a stronger smell than others, but you don’t really pay much attention to it. However, having a mattress with a funky plastic/chemical odor doesn’t sound very nice, because, you know, you’ll be lying on it every night!

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: woman sitting on a leesa mattress.

So, where am I going with this? Well, a lot of Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews showed that off-gassing was quite noticeable.

Therefore, I’d advise airing it out before use. You can do that by leaving it out in your balcony, or any other place around the house for a couple of days. If you’ve left it outdoors, then the next thing you should do is to vacuum all the excess dust off the mattress.

Could be a tad bit Too Soft or Firm

While a medium-firm mattress is proven to be the top choice for all types of sleepers [2], it still might not be the case for everybody. Certain health issues, physical attributes may require a softer, or maybe even a firmer surface.

In fact, some Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews from customers showed that it was rather hard for a medium-firm mattress. While others complained that it was too soft. So, which one is it? Is it too soft or too firm??

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: textured mattress pattern with a pillow.

Well, firmness is quite a subjective matter since, as I’ve mentioned before, physical trauma, weight, or just plain preference might come into play. So, this hybrid mattress would probably be ideal for people of average weight.

Therefore, even though it is advertised as an all-purpose mattress for all sleepers, the Leesa Hybrid might not be suitable for everyone.

Motion Isolation is Meh

If your partner enjoys wiggling around, or waking up at 4 AM for a glass of water, then motion isolation is definitely something you should look out for. So, how is it with the Leesa Hybrid Mattress? Well, to tell you the truth, it’s quite average.

While you won’t feel huge waves of movement because the mattress is stacked with memory foam, there might be a slight response from the pocketed coils. And, I know, the pocketed spring layer and foam combination should be able to handle motion quite well, but it's definitely not ideal.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa hybrid mattress high-density memory foam.

So, if you want something that won't wake your partner up, then you can take a look at the Puffy Mattress which is known to have superb motion isolation. In fact, check out this article if you'd like to know a little bit more about Puffy products.

Not the Best Edge Support

We'll finish off this Leesa Hybrid Mattress review with the edges. Having a mattress with nice edge support will let you comfortably sit or sleep, as the term suggests, at the EDGE of your bed. Even more so, if you find yourself rolling off your bed, then it is definitely something to consider.

While the Leesa Hybrid Mattress can be proud of its pocketed springs which give that supporting feel around the edges, it surely could be better. Some customers felt like the edges were slightly too soft, and the support wasn’t really there.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: leesa mattress from a side angle.

However, it is to be expected since, as I’ve mentioned earlier, things such as weight or sleep position may impact the overall sleeping experience on this particular mattress.

Likewise, foam mattresses are very unlikely to have excellent support around the edges, just because their whole purpose is to mold around your body structure. Even if it is a hybrid, the mattress still won’t give you that innerspring edge support like Saatva products.

Price

Now that we got familiar with the Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews from customers, and its features, let’s take a look at the price tag. There are multiple options to choose from, and obviously the bigger the bed, the more it will cost. In fact, the prices range from $1199 to $2099.

Currently, the prices of the mattresses stand as follows (subject to change):

Keep in mind that at the moment of writing this article, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress is on sale. So, the prices might differ. In fact, you may choose the financing option for as low as $83 per month with a 0% APR, or get a discount from our coupon page.

Anyways, I’m sure the price might seem a little high for most. Well, let's take, for instance, a handcrafted chair, and compare its price with one from IKEA or whatever. There’s obviously gonna be quite a difference between the two.

Same thing with these mattresses. They are made for a specific purpose from quality materials, which leads to a higher price.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress Review: mattress schematics on a paper.

Not to mention the booming prices, and a huge shortage of foam, steel, and lumber which are some of the key materials for mattresses and their accessories. So, naturally, it’s much more difficult to manufacture such products at high volumes.

Now, considering the Leesa Hybrid Mattress reviews, it seems like a good choice for someone who’s in need of a balanced variant. While some things like edge support could be better, and variations of firmness would definitely be an advantage, it’s definitely a decent enough mattress.

Also, for your convenience, you’ll get a 100-day free trial, and a 10-year warranty for your new mattress.

Likewise, Leesa offers free shipping straight to your door! That’s right! However, if you want it brought straight to your bedroom, then you can choose the white glove delivery option at check out. This will include bringing in and assembling the mattress without you needing to lay a finger on it!

Not only that, with the white glove delivery option, your old mattress will be taken care of! So, you won’t need to worry about getting rid of your old mattress, or fitting it somewhere around the house.

Now, for the shipping. Leesa usually ships within 3 to 10 days, because all mattresses are made-to-order. This means that they are not packaged until the order has been placed. However, due to the current pandemic, it may take up to 2 weeks to deliver your mattress.

In fact, Leesa is a B Corp certified company, and I’m sure you’re wondering what in the world does that mean. Well, B Corp is a world-renowned certification that evaluates companies based on their social and environmental performance.

Conclusions

Getting a good nights’ sleep is always great. Especially when you’re not in pain after waking up. Well… I’m sure most of us don’t expect to have an achy back or neck, but these issues can always manifest in due time.

Trust me, it’s usually not because you’re getting old, gaining weight, or whatever; don’t beat yourself up about it. Sometimes all it takes is to replace your old mattress with a new one

Speaking about mattresses, we’ve got to learn a little bit about the Leesa Hybrid. The key takeaways from this product were the body contouring, pressure relief features, slight bounciness, and a nice enough airflow/cooling system.

In fact, based on customer reviews and specifications, the Leesa Hybrid Mattress is definitely a good choice for people with a light/average weight.

However, some user complaints suggested that this particular hybrid mattress is not that great for heavier stomach sleepers, lacked edge support, and the off-gassing was very noticeable. So, it's not a complete deal-breaker for a top-shelf mattress, but there's definitely some room for improvement.

All in all, if you’re waiting for a price decrease in mattresses - don’t bother. The prices for materials will be up for a while, at least till the pandemic is over. Your best bet is to look for a discount on our coupon page, or you could look for some deals on Leesa’s website

very good

Mattresses are a very personal preference and it is dangerous to order online, but in my opinion this is a fairly safe choice (unless you prefer softer mattress).

FAQ

How is the Leesa Hybrid Mattress different from the original one?

Compared to the Leesa Original, the Hybrid has a hole-punched layer that increases breathability, and a base that consists of over 1000 pocketed coils, sandwiched between two memory foam layers. This makes it a bit more responsive, durable, and gives the mattress slight edge support.

Is the Leesa Hybrid good for all sleepers?

In a way, yes. During this Leesa Hybrid Mattress review, I've briefly mentioned what types of sleeping positions are best for this mattress. So, ideally, it's best for back and side sleepers, however, heavier stomach sleepers might have trouble with sinkage

How to choose the best mattress for me?

When choosing the best mattress for yourself, there are a few important factors that you should consider. First of all, what type of mattress do you need? The most traditional mattresses are memory foam, innerspring and latex, but there are other options, too. Secondly, think about how much you can spend on a mattress, but remember it doesn’t mean that the mattress is better if it’s more expensive. Furthermore, pick a size and firmness depending on your preferences. Finally, think about your sleeping position, it will also influence your decision.

How much does a good mattress cost?

Mattress price usually varies depending on a few factors, such as mattress type, size, height, quality of the material and durability. Today the price of a mattress can vary from $150 to $7000. However, you can find a good mattress for under $1000. The average pricing of a foam mattress is about $900 dollars, innerspring $950. These are the least expensive mattresses. However, if you can afford more expensive ones, you can consider a hybrid mattress for about $1,650, latex - about $2,000.

What size mattress should I get?

Most mattress providers offer 6 standard sizes, including Twin, Twin XL, Full/Double, Queen, King, and California King. A Twin mattress is great for children or young adults who live alone. A Twin XL mattress is great for children or single adults but not comfortable for couples. A Full/Double bed is excellent for children and couples, however, it won’t work if both people like to have more space. Queen mattresses work great for adults who like to sleep near each other. A King bed is amazing for couples who like to have some space or sleep with a pet. Finally, a California King mattress is amazing for tall people and couples who like to have space or sleep with their pets.

How long does a mattress last? When should you replace your mattress?

Mattress durability depends on the materials that were used to make it. The average lifespan of a mattress varies from 7 to 10 years. However, good quality mattresses can last even longer. It is recommended to replace your mattress every 8 years, but if it still feels great, there’s no need. If you want to buy a mattress that lasts longer than average, you should consider latex or memory foam mattresses. These can serve up to 10 or 15 years while Innerspring mattresses usually last about 7-8 years.
